This is a master-quality Mahakala or Kala Bhairabha Thangka Painting. Mahakala is a God common to both Hinduism and Tantric Buddhism. In Buddhism, Mahakala is a fierce form of Lord Vishnu, whereas, in Hinduism, he is a fierce manifestation of both Shiva and Vishnu and is the consort of the goddess Mahakali. Mahakala is considered a guardian deity. He is depicted in a number of forms, each with distinctly different qualities and aspects. Mahakala is also known as Kala Bhairava or Mahakala Bhairava in Hinduism, and there are many Mahakala temples in Nepal.

WHITE MAHAKALA – THE SIX ARMED MAHAKALA
The six Armed Mahakala is known as the wish-granting Mahakala and is very popular among the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. This wealth aspect of the Mahakala winch specifically supports the comfort and economic well-being of tantric practitioners. The White Mahakala is generally worshiped to attain wealth. His iconography is rich in symbols delineating his status. For example, his skull bowl,
rather than containing the mortal remains of his victims, is full of various jewels and his crown is made up of five jewels instead of the trademark five skulls.

His body is white which is why he is also called White Mahakala. The expression on his face is ferocious and wrathful and has three eyes. His main right hand holds a wish-fulfilling flaming jewel(Chintamani) mounted on a jewel-tipped handle in front of his chest, his upper right hand holds a Vajra-marked chopper and his lower right-hand holds a drum with streaming ribbons. His main left arm rests on his left
thigh and he holds a skull cup with a vase filled with many jewels. His upper left-hand holds a trident–tipped Khatvanga staff and his lower left-hand holds a Vajra hook. Six-Armed Mahakala wears silk scarves; an elephant skin cloak, a garland of freshly severed human hands, and a tiger skin spread across his lower body below the bulging stomach. Six Armed White Mahakala is lavishly ornamented with exquisitely designed gold earrings, necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and girdles. His skirt is beautifully painted. As with the ornaments, gold is used to brighten the eyebrows of his two prominent eyes, his flaming mustache, and his beard.
