This Thangka painting shows Simhamukhi/Simhamukha Vajrayogini, also known as the Lion-Faced Dakini, framed with premium silk brocade. Her body is black, and her face is that of a white lion with three round yellow eyes, which gives her a fierce appearance. Her mouth is open, revealing a yellow beard, eyebrows, and upward-flowing hair. She holds a curved knife called Kartika in her right hand, raised to the sky, and a skull cup of blood to her heart with her left hand. Simhamukha carries a Khatvanga staff, tipped with a trident, in the bend of her elbow supported against the shoulder. Simhamukha dons a tiara adorned with five skulls, an elephant skin, bone ornaments, a long snake, a red scarf, and a necklace of fifty freshly severed heads.s. She wears a skirt made of tiger skin and stands on her left leg with her right leg bent upwards. She tramples on a double triangle symbol, a corpse, the sun, and a multi-colored lotus seat. Simhamukha represents great fierceness and resides in a blazing fire of pristine awareness.

Simhamukha, also known as Simha Mukhi Jogini, appears in a wrathful and demonic feminine form. However, her nature is not evil or sinister. Instead, her wrathful aspect (khro gzugs) skillfully overcomes and subdues violent negative energies. Simha Mukhi is a Jnana Dakini, or wisdom goddess.
