Original Hand-painted Green Tara/ Shyamatara/ Sgrol-ljang Tibetan Thangka Painting / Buddhist Meditation art
This beautiful hand-painted GREEN TARA Tibetan Thangka painting. Green Tara is a female Bodhisattva in Tibetan Buddhism, known for her compassion and swift action to help those in need. She is often depicted as a young woman in a green lotus posture, with one leg extended to signify readiness to help. Green Tara is associated with protection, healing, and the removal of obstacles.
Traditional Thangkas are indeed hand-painted and often use natural pigments. The use of natural pigments and handcrafting is a part of the rich artistic tradition of Thangka painting. In Thangka painting, the choice of colors carries deep symbolic meanings. The use of green in Green Tara's representation may symbolize qualities like fertility, growth, and compassion. Gold is often used to depict divine or transcendent aspects, signifying the spiritual and enlightened nature of the subject.
Thangkas are highly detailed and symbolic artworks. Different elements within the painting, such as deities, symbols, and landscapes, often represent various aspects of life, creation, and the universe according to Buddhist cosmology and teachings.
Thangkas, including the Green Tara Thangka, are not just art but also spiritual tools for meditation and devotion. They are believed to have a sacred and transformative presence, and practitioners often use them as focal points for meditation and as aids in their spiritual practice. In some Buddhist traditions, Tara is considered the female counterpart or spiritual consort of certain Buddhas, such as Avalokiteshvara. This signifies the unity of wisdom (Tara) and compassion (Avalokiteshvara) in the journey towards enlightenment. Thangkas like the Green Tara are not only objects of art but also deeply imbued with spiritual and cultural significance. They serve as a means of connecting with Buddhist teachings and as aids in the practitioner's spiritual journey. The details and symbolism in such Thangkas often hold profound meanings for those who appreciate and use them.

What is Thangka?
• A thangka, also known as tangka, thanks, or tanka is a painting on cotton, or silk appliqué, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala.
• The thangka is not a flat creation like an oil painting or acrylic painting but consists of a complex subject.
• Generally, thangkas last a very long time and retain much of their luster, but because of their delicate nature, they have to be kept in dry places where moisture won't affect the quality of the painting.
• The Thangkas serve as essential teaching tools depicting the life of the Buddha, various influential lamas, and other deities and bodhisattvas.
• The Thangka, when created properly, performs several different functions. Images of deities can be used as teaching tools when depicting the life (or lives) of the Buddha, describing historical events concerning important Lamas, or retelling myths associated with other deities.
• The Devotional images act as the centerpiece during a ritual or ceremony and are often used as mediums through which one can offer prayers or make requests.
