This is a Guru Shakti Thangka Painting. In this painting Padmasambhava or Guru Rinpoche is illustrated, embracing his concert Mandarava seated on a lotus seat in deep blue water. He holds a vajra in his right hand and skullcap and he embraces his consort with his left hand.
Mandarava or Machik Drubpai Gyalmo, or Pandaravasini was one of the two principal consorts of Padmasambhava or Guru Rinpoche, a founder-figure of Tibetan Buddhism. Mandarva is described as the second Most Important Female Buddha' by many Buddhist practitioners. She is considered to be a female guru-deity in Tantric Buddhism( Vajrayana.)
