This original hand-painted **Shakyamuni Buddha Thangka** portrays the historical Buddha in the **Bhumisparsha Mudra**, the Earth-Touching Gesture associated with his enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree.
Hand-painted in Nepal on handmade cotton canvas, the artwork features a striking **black, gold, and natural-color palette** and is traditionally mounted in silk brocade.
### Shakyamuni Buddha and the Earth-Touching Mudra
Shakyamuni Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, is the historical Buddha whose teachings form the foundation of Buddhism.
His right hand reaches toward the earth in the **Bhumisparsha Mudra**, recalling the moment he called the earth to witness his awakening and victory over Mara.
His left hand rests in the **Dhyana Mudra**, the gesture of meditation and concentration, and holds a traditional alms bowl. Together, these elements express meditation, renunciation, wisdom, and awakening.
The peaceful expression and meditative posture make this Thangka a meaningful visual support for contemplation and Buddhist practice.
### Traditional Himalayan Craftsmanship
The painting is individually hand-painted on **handmade cotton canvas** using black, gold, and natural tones. Its dark background creates a dramatic contrast with the golden details and the serene figure of Shakyamuni Buddha.
The finished painting is mounted in traditional **silk brocade**, giving it the classic presentation of a Tibetan Thangka wall hanging.
Small variations in brushwork, colors, brocade patterns, and stitching are natural characteristics of handmade artwork.
