This is a hand-painted Vajrasattva Thangka painting. The Vajrasattva is one of the sixth Dhyani Buddha, the Buddha of purification. The Vajrasattva thangkas are used for meditation, devotional, and purification practices in the Buddhist tradition. The Vajrasattva is an important figure in the tantric Buddhism of the Newar people of the Kathmandu Valley. The Vajrasattva short mantra (oṁ Vajrasattva Hūṁ) is regarded as having the ability to purify karma, bring peace, and cause enlightened activity.
