This is an original, hand-painted Thangka painting of SHAKYAMUNI GAUTAMA BUDDHA, a prominent figure in Buddhist art. The painting is made with premium silk brocade and depicts the Buddha with his right hand extended to the earth in the Bhumisparsha Mudra gesture, also known as the gesture of witness. The left hand is in his lap, and his palm is upward in the Dhyana Mudra gesture, the gesture of meditation. In some representations, he also holds the begging bowl of an ordained Buddhist monk. The bowl contains three precious nectars, indicating that he has conquered the demons of uncontrolled death, contaminated aggregates, and delusion. This posture is known as "Buddha Shakyamuni Conquering the Demons" and shows the moment of the Buddha's full enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. Shakyamuni is the Buddha of our time and the root teacher of all diverse lineages of Buddhism.
