This hand-painted thangka painting features Jambhala/Zambala/Zambala/Kubera, bordered with high-quality silk. Kubera, or Zambala, is a god associated with wealth whose blessings can remove the obstacle of poverty and bring abundance to those who practice Dharma. It is believed that Dzambhala generates prosperity so that practitioners can have the time, energy, and resources to attain spiritual realizations.

According to the Sutras, Dzambhala appeared before Shakyamuni Buddha when demons tried to disturb him while teaching. The deity protected Buddha, and in recognition of his courageous action, Buddha asked Dzambhala to become a Dharma protector to help all sentient beings. Dzambhala accepted the offer, and since then, he has offered immediate assistance to anyone who calls his name or chants his mantra. His blessings bestow good luck, increase virtues, prolong life, increase intelligence, and provide material and spiritual benefits.

There are five Dzambhalas - yellow, white, black, green, and red - and yellow is the most common form. Yellow Dzambala/Kubera is depicted seated imperially upon a throne, adorned with a crown, silk garments, and beautiful gold and jeweled ornaments. He holds a Citroen fruit in his right hand and a mongoose in his left. The mongoose represents Dzambhala's victory over the nagas and constantly spews precious jewels and treasures.
