This is a large-size 5 BuddhaBig Circle mandala Original Tibetan Thangka Painting. Buddha or Gautam Buddha, also known as Shakyamuni Buddha was a spiritual teacher upon whose lessons the foundations for Buddhism were formed. He is regarded as the Supreme Buddha and is the first enlightened individual to be visualized. Despite some confusion from those who do not follow Buddhism, it is important to note that the Buddha was not considered to be a God. He was rather a human, like the rest of us, who was able to develop an extraordinary perception of existence. This perception helped him to rid his mind of the things that cause us all a level of suffering; craving, hatred, and delusion. This, in turn, helped him to attain levels of true peace and contentment – and remain free from the suffering of sentient beings.

This Thangka depicts various activities and life cycles of Lord Buddha from birth, youth, old age, and nirvana( liberation). This is a symbolic representation of the material world in which one is forced to give birth, get old, be in pain, and die. This Thangka illustrates the teaching of Buddha.

OIL-VARNISHED THANGKA
An oil-varnished thangka painting is a unique style of thangka, a traditional Buddhist religious painting, typically found in Tibet and other Himalayan regions. Unlike the traditional thangkas that use natural pigments mixed with a binder, oil-varnished thangkas are created using oil-based paints.

The process of creating an oil-varnished thangka involves using oil paints to create intricate images of Buddhist deities, scenes, or mandalas on a canvas or wooden panel. After the painting is completed, it is then coated with a layer of varnish, which not only enhances the colors and details but also provides protection to the artwork.

Oil-varnished thangkas often display vibrant colors and have a distinct shine due to the varnish layer. The use of oil paints allows for a different level of detail and shading, giving these thangkas a unique aesthetic appeal compared to traditional watercolor-based thangkas. However, both styles hold significant cultural and religious significance and are valued for their spiritual representation in Buddhist practices.
