This exceptional Thangka features an original, hand-painted depiction of Manjushri, the revered Bodhisattva known as the "God of Divine Wisdom." Skillfully bordered with premium silk, this artwork captures Manjushri‘s divine essence and serves as a conduit for wisdom and intelligence through devoted worship. Manjushri, appearing in various Tantric forms within Tibetan Buddhism, holds a special place in the hearts of followers seeking enlightenment.
As the Swayambhu Purana recounts, Legend has it that the Kathmandu Valley was once submerged beneath a lake. Manjushri perceived a lotus flower at the lake‘s center in a transformative act. To render the valley habitable, Manjushri, in a symbolic gesture, cleaved a gorge at Chovar, enabling the lake‘s drainage. The site where the lotus flower settled became the revered Swayambhunath Stupa, signifying the valley‘s metamorphosis into an inhabitable and spiritually significant space.
