Dive into the celestial brilliance emanating from this unique, hand-painted masterpiece – the 24 K gold Amitayus Tibetan Thangka Painting. Amitayus, also known as Aparmita, embodies the essence of Buddha Amitabha in his Bestower of Longevity forms, either as a celestial Buddha or a fully realized Bodhisattva.

Amitayus has traversed countless eons, attaining Buddhahood through infinite merit accumulated over numerous past lives as a Bodhisattva. The Larger Sutra of Immeasurable Life narrates how Aparmita, through his boundless virtuous deeds, created a pure heavenly realm. In this realm, he resides with innumerable divine disciples, promising boundless and endless life to those who, at the moment of death, invoke his name. He pledges to appear with a multitude of blessed sages, escorting the departed souls to his Pure Land, a realm free from suffering and death, illuminated by the light of the Dharma.

In this Thangka, Aparmita sits in perfect equanimity with hands in Dhyana Mudra, the gesture of meditation. His palms cradle the ambrosia treasure vase, a symbol of his compassionate gift of a long life free from sickness and suffering. The right hand atop signifies the enlightened state, while the left hand below represents the world of appearance, expressing Aparmita’s mastery over appearance through enlightenment. The vase contains amrita, the elixir of awakening and immortality, adorned with leaves of the sacred flowering Ashoka tree.

The exquisite detailing in this Thangka captures the serenity and compassion of Amitayus, inviting you to explore the harmonious union of spiritual significance and artistic brilliance. Whether you are a devotee seeking divine blessings or an art connoisseur appreciating cultural richness, this Thangka serves as a gateway to the profound teachings of Aparmita, offering the promise of longevity and liberation.
